5th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake
It was five years on March 11, owner Patrick Shockley and his wife received a frantic call from his daughter working in Japan that there had been a devastating earthquake and reports were coming in that it had triggered a sizable tsunami. Watching live on CNN, they couldn’t believe their eyes—cars and buildings were getting swept away by what seemed to be the entire ocean relocating to what once had been land. They were eventually able to get some sleep comforted by the fact that their daughter was on the other coast far away from the disaster and had felt little during the event. Others were not so lucky.
We would like to take this time to remember all those who lost their lives that day in Tohoku and remember that there are still many suffering with the aftermath. It is a chilling reminder of just how precious life is and it never should be taken for granted.
To aid with the healing process, one of their daughter’s friends has helped create a film series showcasing the resilience of the people of Tohoku and their efforts to revitalize the area. Be inspired at:http://www.113project.org/.
