How to check your car’s air filter
We hope you and your family are staying safe and finding ways to enjoy summer’s waning days despite the air quality issues in Washington and Oregon. But did you know, we’re not the only ones affected by the wildfire smoke? Your car may be sputtering, too!
Smoky air can clog your car’s air filter. Mechanics east of the Cascades are seeing some filters so plugged the car won’t even run!
The solution: Give your filter the sunlight test. Pull it out and hold it up. If you can’t see sunlight through it, it’s time for a change! Normally, you need to change filters about every 15,000 miles, but when there’s smoke and ash in the air, you’ll want to do it more often.
The good news is, it’s pretty easy to change the filter yourself. Or, for about $20, you can have it done at the shop.
